Is the Ford Explorer good at off roading?

Going to So Cal this summer, plan to off road at Joshua Tree National Park, but Alamo says they only give Mitsubishi Outlanders, Ford Edges, Chevy Trailblazers, Jeep Liberties, and Ford Explorers. Out of them, the Ford Explorer is the only one that can cope with 2 week’s luggage, has a nice interior, a decent powertrain, and 4wd capability.

Will it handle off roading? Should I reserve somewhere else that has a 4runner maybe?
if i can get a more detailed answer that would be great. if you dont know what joshua tree is, look it up on youtube. i know nothing about off roading that’s why i need advice!

Yea. I have a four year old Explorer. It does great out in the mud. I take it off-road at least once a week, in very rough terrain and it lives up to its name greatly. But i would suggest if your renting an SUV not to take it off-road unless advised to. Or get insured on it while renting it.

But, that’s not a picture of a Ford Explorer!
